Having grown up around the boatyards of Camden, Maine, it's perhaps no surprise that Gordon Bok was drawn to the aesthetic aspects of the ocean.
First, he wrote a play called "Small Craft Warnings," only to discover Tennessee Williams had already done that.
Instead, Bok learned guitar and assimilated a wide songbook of sea tunes, traditional chanteys, ballads - and stories and poems thereof. Eventually, he began to write his own material and has earned a huge reputation for his rich and varied programs of material.
On Friday, Bok headlines the latest Friday Night Folk concert, taking place as always in Unity Hall of New London's All Souls Unitarian Universalist Congregation.
Opening the show is Vermont's bluegrass/folk act Willoughby Gap.
