Facey, Samuel sign natonal letters with UConn men

Published November 24. 2012 4:00AM

UConn has received signed national letters of intent from forward Kentan Facey and point guard Terrence Samuel who will play for the Huskies next year.

They were AAU teammates, playing for the N.Y. Rens program.

"I'm elated to have both of these young men sign a letter of intent with our program," UConn coach Kevin Ollie said in a released statement. "They are high-character people and quality basketball players. I know they will both have great senior seasons at their high schools and we can't wait until they get to Storrs this summer and become part of our family."

The 6-foot-9, 195-pound Facey, a top 100 recruit, attends Long Island Lutheran High School and resides in Glen Head on Long Island. He was born and raised in Jamaica. Considered a solid rebounder and shot blocker, he helped Lutheran go 23-6 last season and win the Federation Class A championship.

"Kentan has a relentless motor on the court," Ollie said. "He is someone who can come in here and be a solid rebounder, who will pursue the basketball every time, up and down the court. Plus, he's a fabulous young man. I can't wait to coach him."

Samuel, who checks in at 6-4, 180 pounds, goes to South Shore High School in Brooklyn. When he made an oral commitment in early September, he called UConn his "dream school." Last season, he averaged 11.7 points and 4.8 assists while leading South Shore to a 17-9 record and second straight PSAL Class AA quarterfinal trip.

"Terrence is a big, strong guard who plays with grit and toughness," Ollie said. "He's a very unselfish player with great court vision. I expect him to be a leader for us on and off the basketball court."
