Snowflakes for Sandy Hook, scheduled for Saturday at the Crystal Mall in Waterford, has been canceled. Members of Connecticut’s Parent Teacher Student Association were going to deliver paper snowflake decorations made on Saturday to elementary schoolchildren in Monroe.
But the event was canceled after officials in Newtown asked that no additional donations be sent because the community is unable to process, store and distribute the amount of donations that have arrived since the Dec. 14 shooting of 20 schoolchildren.
For more information on making a monetary donation, go to the Newtown Savings Bank website at nsbonline.com. United Way of Western Connecticut is helping organize the Sandy Hook School Support Fund.
