Just in time for the frenetic film awards season, the United States Coast Guard Band presents their always-popular "Movie Madness" concert on Sunday in Leamy Concert Hall at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
It's an extra special event. The band's director, Capt. Ken Megan, retires later this year and, appropriately, the title and motif of the concert is "Captain's Favorites."
On the program: Lalo Schifrin's theme from "Mission: Impossible," Bruce Broughton's work on "Silverado," and John Williams' "American Journey" suite from the Steven Spielberg documentary "The Unfinished Journey."
In addition, the band's percussion section will provide background music during a screening of Laurel and Hardy's silent film "Double Whoopie," soprano soloist Megan Weikleenget sings "A Rodgers and Hammerstein Memoir," and band assistant director, Chief Warrant Officer Richard Wyman, conducts "As Midnight on a Moonless Night."
