MONTVILLE POWER BACK ON

Most in the region had their power restored by evening after an early Thursday morning storm brought damaging wind, rain and downed branches.

More than 70,000 customers across the state were without power mid-morning. High winds dropped about noon.

Locally, Montville was hardest hit. At one point, 52 percent of the town was without electricity. By 9:30 p.m., Connecticut Light & Power reported that 128, or 1 percent of customers, remained without power. In Lyme, 83, or 6 percent of customers, remained in the dark.

The outages in Montville forced schools to close. Salem had a two-hour delay. Montville also had numerous road closures due to downed trees and wires. In Waterford, Vauxhall Street between Hickory Lane and Fairlawn Street was closed for much of the day.
