Rushin’s readings will explore the lives women writers, artists and activists, including a poem on the great contralto Marian Anderson commissioned by the International Festival of Arts and Ideas/CT Freedom Trail Poetry Project.
Rushin is the author of “The Black Back-Ups” and “The Bridge Poem.” She has taught poetry writing workshops and African American Literature at Wesleyan University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition she has received fellowships from Brown University, The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and The Cave Canem Foundation. She also serves on the James Merrill House Committee and The Connecticut Poetry Circuit.
