Campus Slammer at Conn College
TIME: 7:30 pm
Campus Slammer is a series of contests that take place on college campuses throughout Connecticut. The Connecticut Storytelling Center (CSC) is sponsoring the 2013 Campus Slammer to encourage the development of storytellers and listeners on college campus communities with the support of the National Storytelling Network.
There will be a Campus Slammer at Connecticut College at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Coffee Grounds, a coffeehouse on campus. Students will tell original stories, usually about their own lives.
Story Slam is an open mic event in which audience members share stories. Based on a poetry slam format and similar to “American Idol,” a Story Slam is a contest of words. Slammers sign up on the night of the event to tell a five-minute short story on the evening’s theme. Participants are randomly chosen. It is a competition based on who tells the best story.
The Connecticut Storytelling Festival, held annually at Connecticut College on the last weekend in April, hosts the finals.
