MRHS Program: Bill Peterson Speaks on Mystic Ships and the Civil War
TIME: 7:30 pm
to 8:30 pm
During the four years of the Civil War, Mystic built and owned ships were involved in nearly all theaters of action. Nearly eighty vessels were built in Mystic during the war. Peterson will discuss the careers of just a few of these vessels. The talk will bring some due attention to the waterborne aspects of the war in which Mystic men and ships played an important but often overlooked role.
Bill Peterson is Curator Emeritus of Mystic Seaport and a founding member of the Mystic River Historical Society. He has lectured and written extensively about the Connecticut maritime experience. His book, Mystic Built was chosen for the prestigious John Lyman Award and Peterson has also been recognized by the Photographic Historical Society of New England for his work.
