The US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Friends of Roger Tory Peterson announce a public meeting to discuss management and potential recreational activities at the Old Lyme property that belonged to the late ornithologist, author and artist Roger Tory Peterson. The 56 acre natural area along Neck Road comprises most of the former Peterson land, and was recently acquired by the Federal government to be incorporated into the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge.
The public meeting will take place at 7pm on Tuesday April 2nd. The location will be the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, 2 Ferry Rd, Old Lyme, CT 06371
During the discussion, staff from the US Fish and Wildlife Service and volunteers from the Friends of Roger Tory Peterson will talk about what national wildlife refuges are and the potential for this property in Old Lyme. Staff will discuss nature trails, a visitor contact station and other ideas that have been proposed thus far. The public will be given an opportunity to ask questions about what may happen at the property and to give ideas or raise concerns. At the end of the meeting, the Friends of Roger Tory Peterson steering committee will discuss the formation of this new group and hold a brief sign-up session for interested individuals.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service is committed to providing access to this meeting for all participants. The public should direct all requests for sign language interpreting services, close captioning, or other accommodation needs to Shaun Roche at 860-399-2513 (TTY 800-877-8339). Please make your request by close of business on March 23, 2013.
