The Colonial style house, built in the early 1800s, was Victorianized at the turn of the 20th century. It houses the story of an American family that lived there for 200 years. The Avery-Copp House, located at 154 Thames St. in Groton, will be open to the public for guided tours through October 12. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults and free to children under age 12.
The Colonial style house, built in the early 1800s, was Victorianized at the turn of the 20th century. It houses the story of an American family that lived there for 200 years. Furnishings are original and a testament to Yankee thrift, inventiveness and hard work. Two Victorian gazebos sit above the house on the terraced lawns overlooking the Thames River.
The house is open seasonally and by appointment year round. Events for families and the general public are offered throughout the year, including a Fall Garden Party, a Christmas Open House, Charles Dickens dramatic readings, tours and lectures.
