Music Class for the Very Young

How-To Festival at Groton Public LIbrary

The festival will provide the chance to learn how to give a massage, how to fly fish, juggle soccer ball, make balloon animals and do karate moves and more. Learning these skills, plus more, will also serve as the kickoff for summer reading.
Registration will open for the online summer reading program, Dig Into Reading, which offers prizes for readers of all ages.
This family day of fun, co-sponsored by the library, the Groton Senior Center and the Groton Parks and Recreation Department with the help of volunteers, community organizations and local businesses, plans to offer 50 “how-to” sessions in four hours for free. Activities will take place at the library, senior center and on the fields between the two buildings. Sessions will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Each session will run either 20 or 50 minutes and some will be repeated in several time slots. A full schedule of events is available at the library.
Equipment from the Groton Public Works Department will be on site for a touch-the-truck event for children. Other activities include face painting, doodling with a purpose, calligraphy, watercolor painting, rock collecting and raising chickens. A performance by the Mystic Paper Beasts is planned from noon to 1 p.m. on the main stage at the Senior Center. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.

Join us Tuesday, June 25 at 1:00 at the Bill Memorial Library in the City of Groton for Beneath the Surface, the library’s 2013 Young Adult Summer Reading Program. Beneath the Surface is open to teens entering grade 6 through grade 12. Register for our Dewey Deal or No Deal reading game and take a turn on the board at the library to earn chances for raffle prizes and free books. Registration begins on Tuesday, June 25 and the game continues through August 10.

NEW THIS SUMMER! Teens who are unable to come to the library regularly can participate online! Register by clicking “Dig Into Reading” on the library’s homepage, http://billmemorial.org. Choose the “Beneath the Surface” tab, create an account and log your reading. For every 10 days read, you can visit the library to receive a prize. How to be a Cartoonist
