Sun beat Liberty 65-50 in playoff opener

Tina Charles, who was named the league’s MVP earlier in the day, scored 17 points and blocked four shots as the Connecticut Sun defeated the New York Liberty 65-60 in Game 1 of the WNBA first-round playoffs Thursday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.
