Extreme distance runner Chris Nicholas of Grand Rapids, Mich., makes his way into Old Saybrook Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012. Nicholas is on the ninth day of his second cross-country run, which he started in Portland, Maine. Nicholas started his first run on March 25 in Washington D.C. and ran to Santa Monica, Calif. His final destination for this second run is Portland, Ore. and if he makes it to California before March 24, 2013, he will be the first runner to run across the country twice in the same calendar year. Nicholas's run is a solo fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children's Hospital and the Make A Wish Foundation.
