Lee Howard, a business reporter for The Day who specializes in the coverage of pharmaceutical issues, financial institutions and real estate, won one of Connecticut's major journalism awards in 2009, when he took home the Theodore Driscoll Award for Investigative Reporting from the state Society of Professional Journalists. The following year, he won top prize in business reporting from SPJ, and previously won dozens of other awards in such categories as page one layout, feature-page layout, photo layout, column writing, feature writing, feature series, news series and general news.

Howard spent much of his career as an editor, most recently as managing editor of The Times Community News Group, where he ran as many as nine award-winning weekly newspapers with a circulation of nearly 100,000. A graduate of Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va., Howard also has served The Day as a copy editor, region editor, page one editor, Sunday editor, Marketplace editor and real estate editor. A longtime tennis columnist, in 1999 he was named Journalist of the Year by the New England division of the United States Tennis Association. Howard, currently finishing a master’s degree in interactive communications from Quinnipiac University, lives in Niantic, Conn., with his wife, Sharma, and two children.
