UPDATED: 11:18 a.m. Robert Bergeson, the owner of a home on Witter Road in Salem that was the subject of police and fire activity Tuesday night, is dead according to Rhode Island Hospital.

The family of 52-year-old Michael Dugas, who was fatally shot by police on Feb. 24, has notified the city they intend to bring a wrongful death lawsuit against the city and the seven police officers involved in the shooting. An Old Saybrook man who allegedly stole a pickup truck and engaged police in pursuit Tuesday crashed the truck at routes 85 and 161 in the Chesterfield section of Montville, sending a second pickup into a small pond with the driver trapped inside. The grandmother of the 15-month-old Norwich boy whom state police issued a missing child alert for on Sunday has been arrested for drunken driving, among other charges. Kush C. Vanswala, 24, of 2 York St., Groton Town, was charged Friday with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Area police and prosecutors are dealing with more cases involving the sale of large amounts of synthetic marijuana. Jouen Dubose, 21, of 484 Montalk Ave., New London, was charged Friday with driving with a suspended license and failure to grant right-of-way to oncoming traffic. New London firefighter Alfred Mayo, who successfully fought his 2011 firing by the city after claiming he was discriminated against, was arrested by Montville police late Friday night for assaulting a man outside the Montville Polish Club. Chief Justice Chase T. Rogers announced Friday that Judge Patrick L. Carroll III would succeed Judge Barbara M. Quinn as the next chief court administrator. Kush C. Vanswala, 24, of 2 York Court, Groton, was charged Friday with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Police advise that the “Tour De Noank 5-K” road race on Saturday morning will tie up traffic in the village. A Niantic man was arrested on June 3 after police said he stole eight sets of silver Tiffany & Co. flatware and then pawned them at a local shop. Evy A Castillo, 24, of 12 Grand St., New London, was charged Thursday with evading responsibility, driving with a suspended license or registration and failure to drive right at slow speed. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation on Thursday announced the promotion of former Deputy Chief Rick Tougas of Mystic to the position of fire chief of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Fire Department.
