Clave Holdings LLC, aka Dog Watch Cafe, is requesting changes to local zoning regulations. It is asking to change a 75-seat, class II restaurant to a 150-seat restaurant and wants to add 1,000 square feet of space for indoor and outdoor food service.
To enhance the dining and drinking pleasure, the business is also asking to add an amendment allowing outdoor sound to be played or projected.
Changing the zoning amendments to allow for a coffee shop and ice cream parlor and breakfast service to be located in the now marine store of the Dodson Boatyard is also requested.
As an abutting neighbor I have lived with the problems of indoor music - until 12:30 a.m. - and parking created by the Dog Watch Cafe for almost two years. I urge residents and business owners to attend this hearing.
This application, if accepted, opens the possibility for outdoor music in all our restaurants in the borough, every day and night. It will not help the small-business owners, and will add an even greater demand for parking spaces to our existing parking dilemma.
The hearing on the matter will be at 7:30 tonight at the borough hall in Stonington.
The Day hosted a web chat with New London Mayor Daryl J. Finizio to discuss the beginning of his new administration and news out of the city's police department.
