Vero Beach, Fla. - Drew McIntyre hit two home runs and drove in five runs for UConn-Avery Point in a 14-4 college baseball victory over Niagara Community College Thursday.
Kyle Cummings and Chris Davidson each had three hits for the Pointers (2-0) and Dave Dubay added two hits, including a triple.
Fitch graduate Josh Valdez also had two hits and an RBI.
In other games:
• Pierre LePage led off the ninth inning with a single and eventually scored the winning run on an error as UConn defeated Southern Cal on Wednesday night, 5-4. LePage also had an RBI single for the Huskies (6-2), who overcame an early 2-0 deficit, and Mike Olt went 3-for-5 with an RBI. USC is 6-7.
• Mitchell College was swept by LaRoche College, 12-4 and 10-3, in its season openers in Fort Pierce, Fla.
College softball
• Mitchell College opened its season with losses to Medaille, 11-4 and 5-0. Lindsey Krowlikowski had two home runs for Mitchell in game one and Megan Burke also homered. Stacey Suplicki had a double for Mitchell in game two.
Girls' basketball
• Tickets for Saturday's CIAC Class LL semifinal game between third-seeded Norwich Free Academy and No. 7 Manchester will be on sale today from 7:30 p.m.-3 p.m. at the Athletics Office in Norton Gym. The game will be played at Bacon Academy at 5 p.m.
Fencing
• The following athletes have been selected all-stars for the 2009-10 Eastern Connecticut Conference season: Girls - Tina Provatas (NFA), Dominque Weigel (NFA), Katherine Longhurst (Griswold), Stephanie Walsh (Griswold). Boys - Cameron Gebhard (East Lyme), Kevin Midgley (Ledyard), Curtis Arnott (NFA), Austin Walker (Ledyard).
