In this, our 80th year of service to Madison, we are pleased to share our news and to encourage your readers' support of our ongoing commitment to Madison residents. Together, we can continue to make a difference to our neighbors in need.
Madison Community Services, Inc. (MCS), is a private, non-profit volunteer organization providing services and assistance to Madison residents since 1930. All of our programs are available without cost to the recipients.
Each August we appeal to the residents of Madison to join our efforts in assisting our neighbors.
Residents' gifts will enable us to continue to pay for gasoline and operating costs of the two MCS vehicles used to drive ambulatory residents to medical appointments (468 rides were provided in 2009) and to transport food for the MCS food pantry. This busy pantry distributes more than 2,000 pounds of food each week to 55 to 65 shoppers representing 175 to 250 individual family members. One hundred and ten special meals are provided as holiday food baskets three times each year. More than $5,000 was provided in 2009 for fuel and rent assistance. Thirty summer camp scholarships were given in 2010 for children who could not otherwise afford to attend. Assistance was available to obtain backpacks and other school supplies.
Because MCS is an association of volunteers, 100 percent of your readers' donations go directly to support services and programs. For information or to volunteer, please call the MCS office at 203-245-3031.
