This coming Saturday, the Madison Park Development Commission along with the Madison selectmen will host an open house at the former Griswold Airport land on the Boston Post Road. The property, now owned by the Town of Madison and its citizens, will be open from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, July 31. Jerry Connolly of the Audubon Shop will lead a tour of the coastal forest portion of the land, starting at 9:15 a.m.
Those who have never been on the land are strongly encouraged to come to see it and walk on it. Those who've been there before are welcome to come also. To appreciate what a significant step the town and its citizens have taken in purchasing the land, one needs to walk the land. One Connecticut newspaper editor (not from The Source) once called the land "scruffy." He afterward admitted he'd never been on the land, only driven by on the Post Road.
There will be another open house at the land on Saturday, Sept. 11. Later this fall the land will be closed as some of the collapsing buildings are removed.
