The infamous Mars hoax that widely circulated on the Internet since its first appearance in the summer of 2004 reared its head again last week, according to Fox News.
This time it came in an e-mail message titled "Mars Spectacular," that declared last Friday night the planet Mars would come closer to Earth than it had in 60,000 years, offering spectacular views of the Red Planet. The missive proclaimed Mars would appear as bright as a full moon.
The problem: It happened Aug. 27, 2003, not Aug. 27, 2010. That's why all of you waiting out there Friday night missed the big show. Mars made its historically close pass to Earth seven years ago.
The message here is: Don't believe everything that you read in an anonymous e-mail.
The Day hosted a web chat with New London Mayor Daryl J. Finizio to discuss the beginning of his new administration and news out of the city's police department.
