Glenn Beck's so-called "Take back America" speech might have well have been titled, "Take back white America." Rather than respect the hallowed ground where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have a Dream" speech 47 years ago - marching, ironically enough for jobs and the economy - is blasphemous.
While I am a proponent of free speech and the Constitution, I do not believe that casting a shadow over history is the way to announce plans for the future. Even though I believe as well in freedom of religion, which Mr. Beck so eagerly touts, I do believe in sensitivity in all forms, including not building a mosque so close to ground zero.
You may be surprised that this letter is written by a Caucasian, native Texan. But this is what we have to stop doing if we truly want America back - stop labeling and spouting hate.
Love and unity were the themes of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Let us allow his message to not be the last word, but the first word in how we carry ourselves as people every day.
