More than 40 Connecticut cities and organizations, including The Day Publishing Co. and the city of Norwich, have been approved for a federal program designed to help insure early retirees.
Forty-eight state groups have been accepted for the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program, a $5 billion national plan to help employers and unions pay benefits for workers 55 or older.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell says the plan could save state taxpayers as much as $30 million a year. More than 3,850 state employees took early retirement last year; this program would pay up to 80 percent of annual claims.
The Day hosted a web chat with New London Mayor Daryl J. Finizio to discuss the beginning of his new administration and news out of the city's police department.
