Fanfare for the Coast Guard with concert, ships at Fort Trumbull

Fort Trumbull has become quite the summer outdoor event venue. The U.S. Coast Guard Band has staged several concerts at the scenic river-front site - and will strike up the band again Sunday.

As they say on infomercials - wait! that's not all!

This is all part of Coast Guard Day at Fort Trumbull, so you've got to have some ships, too. Which is why the Barque Eagle and the Cutter Morro Bay will be docked and open for tours.

From sea to air: the Coast Guard will let visitors get up close to a CG helicopter that'll be on view on the south lawn.

Coast Guard Day, noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Fort Trumbull, Walbach St., New London; 3 p.m. concert; rain date Mon.; free; (860) 444-7591.
