Mystic - Kendall Morales of Mystic's Girl Scout Troop No. 63210 has recently completed her Bronze Award project to benefit the Women's Center of SECT in New London.
For her project, Kendall made 24 bags from T-shirts and filled each bag with a shirt, stuffed animal, book, toothbrush, and toothpaste - the key items a child arriving at the center would need to make them comfortable on that first night in unfamiliar surroundings.
Kendall's leader, Mary Schafer, said that Kendall is very creative and one of her latest crafts was making shoulder bags from T-shirts.
She is also an avid reader and very caring of others in need, Schafer said. The project was the culmination of those key elements.
In completing her project, Kendall demonstrated parts of the Girl Scout Law: Considerate and caring (helping the community and those in need), using resources wisely (recycling T-shirts and books), respect myself and others (everyone needs a little help and we can all do our part to make a difference in the world), and make the world a better place (helping others makes you feel good inside).
The Bronze Award is the highest honor attainable by a Junior Girl Scout, and requires that a scout complete several badge and service requirements before starting the actual project.
Kendall was awarded her Jeweler and Being My Best badges, the Sign of the Rainbow, and her Junior Aide Award for working with a local Brownie troop.
The Day hosted a web chat with New London Mayor Daryl J. Finizio to discuss the beginning of his new administration and news out of the city's police department.
