Waterford - A 71-year-old man was killed and a 66-year-old woman suffered minor injuries Wednesday afternoon in a one-car accident on Interstate 95 that tied up traffic for several hours.
Police said Arthur K. Bonnet, 71, of Rockaway, N.J., was traveling south on the highway when his 2006 Toyota RAV4 went off of the road and struck the wire rope guard rail at about 3:20 p.m.
Police said Bonnet then returned to the highway and for a short distance stradded the left and right lanes before again drifting onto the left shoulder. The car struck the guard rails for a second time, then hit a tree before coming to rest on the shoulder entangled in guard rail wires.
Arthur K. Bonnet was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Barbara Bonnet, a passenger in his SUV, suffered abrasions and contusions, police said. She was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment. The accident is under investigation.
