Norwich — The Connecticut Tigers beat the Aberdeen IronBirds for the second straight night in extra innings Thursday, remaining in contention in the New York-Penn League's Stedler Division.
Connecticut beat Aberdeen 3-2 in 10 innings at Dodd Stadium, going to 36-35 overall and remaining a half-game behind the Tri-City ValleyCats for first place in the division with four games remaining.
P.J. Polk drove in the winning run with a single to score Dixon Machado. Machado, 18, also helped account for the game-winning run in the 11th inning Tuesday, beating out a ground ball as Alexander Nunez scored the winning run.
On Wednesday, Machado collided with catcher Joel Polonco on a play at the plate and knocked the ball loose to score.
Connecticut will play its final home game of the season at 7:05 tonight before finishing the season with three games in Aberdeen. Tonight will be Fan Appreciation Night, with fireworks after the game.
