Old Saybrook - Old Saybrook police charged seven people with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and issued 47 summonses, infractions and written warnings to motorists during a daylong sobriety checkpoint Saturday.
Old Saybrook police conducted the checkpoint in conjunction with Connecticut state police at the intersection of Boston Post and Spencer Plains roads.
State police also issued additional infractions for motor vehicle violations.
"We are taking a zero tolerance position on unsafe driving this holiday weekend," Old Saybrook Police Chief Michael A. Spera said. "Law enforcement agencies are out in force working together to keep unsafe drivers off the road."
Patrols targeting seeking unsafe drivers is slated to continue through the holiday weekend.
