Old Saybrook - Eileen D. Baker, a Democratic candidate for state representative in the 23rd District, has qualified for the voluntary Citizens' Election Program.
The Citizens' Election Program was created to allow candidates to compete without relying on special-interest money, to allow politicians to make decisions free from special interests - or free from the appearance that they were influenced by special interests - and eliminate excessive spending in campaigning, according to a program overview provided to candidates and posted onto the State Elections Enforcement Commission website.
Waterford - The 2nd District Tea Party Patriots will host Janet Peckinpaugh, the Republican nominee to challenge incumbent Congressman Joe Courtney, at its 7:30 meeting on Sept. 20.
The venue, a room at the Waterford Public Library can hold about 100 people, said organizer Bud Fay, who asks people who plan on attending to e-mail bud_fay@msn.com.
