Stonington — Pawcatuck firefighters quickly extinguished a fire this afternoon that destroyed a storage building and its contents at Connors & O’Brien marina on Mechanic Street.
When firefighters arrived at the scene of the 1:48 p.m. fire, flames were coming from the building, according to Fire Chief Thomas Long. He said it took firefighters about 15 minutes to get the blaze under control.
There were no injuries but items such as furniture, outboard motors and boating equipment were destroyed, Long said. There were no boats in the building.
Fire Marshal Kevin Burns said the fire was started by workers using torches to dismantle an adjacent boat storage building.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
