Renee Montgomery: My All-Star weekend

So I hope you all watched the WNBA All Star game and saw that the East side won.

It's always funny in games like that because in the beginning,
everyone is playing around and having a good time. But then when the fourth quarter hits, everyone gets serious and tries to win the game.

The All Star game was self explanatory, so let me take you through the rest of my weekend.

I got to San Antonio Thursday night, and I was greeted by
the WNBA staff, who gave me my itinerary for the weekend. It was jam packed, but at that point, I was still so excited about the experience that I didn't even care. I got to my room and had presents from Nike in there. So this is what it's like being an All Star? I could get used to this : )

The next morning, I woke up and went to the WNBA "Swag Suite." They gave us various goodies such as nail polish, body oils, etc. Once I left there, I headed to a luncheon hosted by Nancy Lieberman, who not only is an awesome point guard but absolutely hilarious. New WNBA President Laurel Richie was there as well.

Right after the luncheon, we had a players’
meeting where we signed balls, hats, backboards, you name it. Directly following our player's meeting the East Team had an open practice, and then we met the media. Once we were done with media, we had to get dressed and head to the welcome dinner (my parents came, yay) and get introduced to the fans there.

By the way, it's about 8 p.m. now, and I have been going non-stop since 11 a.m.

After we were done at the welcome dinner, they bused us back to the hotel and I went to Ilene's (my Nike rep) room. They had a nice setup for us there. I hung out there for a long time, then went back to my room and passed out.

The next day is game day, but it wasn't my typical game day. I woke up for Chapel at 7:50 a.m. Right after chapel, we had another players’ meeting with Laurel Richie, and that was fun. I really like how genuine she is. I have already given her a nickname which is “Madre.”

Once the meeting was done, we had an hour before we had to be on the bus to the game. After the game, I went out with my family and had a good time. I flew back to Connecticut exhausted and had to get ready for the second half
of the season to begin.

When I'm a part of events like that, all I can think of is how many people wish they were there. I completely forget about being tired, and just remember how blessed I am to have experienced it.

Until next time....

Be blessed.
