Connecticut received a presidential declaration as a disaster area Sept. 2, opening the door for FEMA to open two New Haven County disaster relief centers beginning Thurs. Sept. 8. The centers are located at Gateway Community College in North Haven and High Plains Community Center in Orange. Registration with FEMA needs to take place by Nov. 3, 2011.
People from Branford and North Branford can visit New Haven County FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers at Gateway Community College, 88 Bassett Road, North Haven or High Plains Community Center, 525 Orange Center Road, Orange. The centers are now open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Register in advance of your visit by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), online at http://www.disasterassistance.gov or by PDA at m.fema.gov. Speech and hearing disability registration available at TTY number 1-800-462-7585.
