The FCS and Division II playoffs have a distinctly UConn feel to them this season.
Three ex-Huskies who transferred are playing in the NCAA playoffs.
At Towson State, which is coached by former UConn offensive coordinator Rob Ambrose, receivers Leon Kinnard and Gerard Sheppard have made an immediate impact for the Colonial Athletic Association champs. Kinnard has 31 receptions for 308 yards and Sheppard has added 20 catches for 209 yards and a score for Towson, which was a CAA also-ran until Ambrose arrived in 2009. The Tigers are 9-2 and earned a first-round bye in the FCS playoffs. They'll host Lehigh on Dec. 3.
Kutztown State running back Robbie Frey has rushed for 1,189 yards in 11 games with 13 touchdowns, and ran for 157 yards in a 17-14 win over Concord University in the first round of the Division II playoffs last Saturday, the first in program history. They visit New Haven in the second round this Saturday at noon.
