A beloved Branford holiday tradition, the Stony Creek live, outdoor Christmas Pageant, is set for Saturday, December 10 from 6 - 8 p.m. along Thimble Islands Road (rain date Dec 17).
If you've been to this before, you'll be back. If you haven't, don't miss it! Allegro Performing Arts Academy's musical program (6:15 p.m.) is where many like to start, in the sanctuary of the night's sponsor, Church of Christ Congregational in Stony Creek. At 7 p.m. the Stony Creek Fife and Drum Corp marches to the village green, leading a Caroling Ceremony.
By foot or by car, follow some 2,200 luminaries lighting the way past seven live scenes set outside at sites from Stony Creek Fire House to Maderia Park. All told, the scenes add up to re-enact the birth of Christ. Sheep, llama, donkey, goats and a horse will join members of the church's youth group and the community in the scenes. Strolling carolers in Victorian costumes will sing at the scenes.
Scenes will include: The Angel's Announcement to Mary, Joseph's Dream, Crowded Inn at Bethlehem, Shepherds Keeping Watch, The Nativity, the Three Kings, and the Flight to Egypt.
The pageant is free but donations are welcome to benefit both Branford Food Pantry and the Community Dining Room. An Open House with refreshments takes place during the pageant -- find it at Fellowship Hall, located behind the church. For more information call 488-7827.
