Published January 12. 2012 4:00AM

Norwich — To mark the second anniversary of the catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti, the youth groups of Peniel Church and the First Haitian Baptist Church of Norwich will hold a joint service at 7 p.m. Friday at the Haitian church on Central Avenue.

Attendees plan to wear the colors of the Haitian flag and take up a collection for “35 Seconds for Haiti,” a mission of the Haitian church that is seeking to raise enough money to build 35 homes by the end of the year.

Both churches serve in the same neighborhood of Greeneville and have worked closely together since members from both churches went on a relief trip to Haiti one month after the earthquake. An estimated 500,000 people remain homeless from the disaster, which killed more than 300,000 people Jan. 12, 2010.
