Alice R. Edman, 79, of Madison, died Jan. 13 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. She was the beloved wife of Paul K. Edman. Alice was born in Hartford on Sept. 23, 1932, daughter of the late Thomas I., Sr. and Dorothy Elizabeth (Brown) Crilly. A graduate of Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, Alice served her country in the U.S. Air Force as a registered nurse in Texas and Tachikawa AFB in Japan. She had worked as an office nurse for H.B. Birnbaum, MD full time in the years that the Connecticut Turnpike was being built through Madison and for several summers. She also worked on staff at several hospitals in Connecticut and was a private duty nurse at Yale-New Haven Hospital. In addition, she worked weekends for six years at the Connecticut Hospice when it was located at Burban Drive in Branford.
Alice enjoyed genealogy, knitting, and scrapbooking. She was also an avid fan of UCONN women’s basketball.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, John E.F. Edman and his wife Linda of Madison, Jane C. Phillips and her husband Sean of Longmont, Colorado, and Nancy E. Edman of Madison, and a brother, Charles Crilly and his wife Susan of Southport, Florida. In addition, she is survived by two grandsons, Owen Phillips and Hunter Krebs, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by infant son Carl G.E. Edman; a brother, Thomas I. Crilly, Jr.; and two sisters, Barbara J. Ruhe and Joan Beverly Crilly.
Friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m., in West Cemetery, Boston Post Rd., Madison.
