Stories Alive" is a free educational online preschool newsletter for children (ages 3 to 5) and their parents. It answers important questions such as "Can Teddy Bears Teach Math?"

Our featured book this month: Where’s My Teddy? by Jez Alborough is a thoroughly entertaining way of introducing the concept of large and small to preschool children.

The story begins, “Eddie’s off to find his Teddy. Eddie’s Teddy’s name is Freddie. He Lost him in the woods somewhere. It’s dark and horrible in there. ‘Help!’ said Eddie, ‘I’m scared already! I want my bed! I want my teddy!’ ”

The adventures of Eddie and Freddie will capture the imagination of your child. Books are a safe way for children to explore the world and their feelings. They laugh, clap, become afraid, giggle, and request numerous re-readings. Stories Alive guides the child’s interest into Art, Dramatic Play, Math & Science, Music &/or Movement.

Math: Goldilocks and the Three Bears is a wonderful way to teach the concepts: small, medium, and large. These are concepts that young children need to learn: along with “the same but different.”
