Community Support Makes Police Effort Possible

Thanks go to everyone who contributed to the second Madison Police Department Toy and Food Drive. Donations benefited children of Madison families in need, the Madison Food Pantry, the Toy Closet at the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, and food banks along the shoreline.

Monetary donations, toys, gift certificates, and non-perishable food items as well as frozen turkeys and hams were received from many residents, school children, and business owners who were even more generous this year than last-in spite of the difficult economy.

Our thanks are also extended to Robert's Food Center and Stop & Shop for graciously allowing the police to hold their "Stuff a Cruiser" drives at their locations on two separate weekends. Thanks also to Mr. Walter Lippmann who provided fun tractor holiday hay rides on a Saturday afternoon around Town Campus to families dropping off toys and food at the department. Additionally, Santa and Mrs. Claus (Skip and Colleen Church), Elf Marianne, and Elf Judy were with the police every step of the way and played an integral part in creating a very festive and fun environment for the children, officers, and volunteers.

Many businesses-namely David Gannon of Independent Outdoor billboards, Dana Fordyce of Hammonasset Ford, Renee DiGiacomo of Go Minis-Meriden, and Southern Connecticut Ice & Oil, LLC, of Bridgeport-donated advertising and food storage units, without which our food and toy drives would not be possible.

Best wishes for a safe and healthy 2012. Thanks for the support of the Madison Police Department.
