I take my cue about flocking birds from Alfred Hitchcock. Still, Izaskun E. Larrañeta's story today about Waterford's pigeon tamer is fascinating.
As soon as they see (Steven) Vlaun holding the can, the birds instantly come down from their perches and start cooing. Vlaun bends down and the birds surround him, resembling puppies that wag their tails at the sight of their owner. He sprinkles some feed.
Who knew pigeons were smart?

Mystic - Coogan Gildersleeve Appliances will hold its third annual free lunch buffet and silent auction to benefit Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality on Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its 2 Greenmanville Ave. store.
Those who attend are asked to donate items such as dishes, pots and pans, single or full bedsheets, towels and blankets. MASH cannot accept electronics.
