Publication: The Day
Each day brings another opportunity to open our minds to differences in people. One major area of misunderstanding is homosexuality. In this regard there are people using their religious values to do what they're not supposed to do - judge others.
Some Christians believe that homosexuals shouldn't be seen together in public as it corrupts our children. Yet some children are gay, and are often left feeling confused about their sexuality.
As human beings who love, feel pain, cry and laugh, these individuals need support, not judgment.
Some dismiss homosexuals as mentally ill. Mental illness exists across the board regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation.
Others would try to place blame on homosexuals for broken homes and economic problems. What about straight people fornicating and procreating, increasing taxpayers' financial burden?
As for biblical writings, they are open to debate.
Opening our hearts and minds, accepting the imperfections of our views, while considering the differing views of others, can bring meaning and growth to our lives.
