Beware the perils of online gambling

In response to David Collins' Jan. 15 column, "When gambling is a click away," my understanding from people who are addicted to gambling is that Internet gambling is more addictive than casino gambling.
If casinos argue you shouldn't outlaw bars because there are alcoholics, then they should be willing to monitor or police gambling activity the way a bartender is not allowed by law to continue serving drinks to someone who is obviously have a problem with alcohol. The casinos don't want to take their logic to an obvious conclusion because then the "whales" (big problem gamblers) won't fall into their net. And the casinos don't make their real money from the casual nickel and dime slot machine gamblers.
Online gambling might be called "the oxycontin of gambling." People are able to bury themselves in the computer and totally escape reality until the bills start arriving in the mail.
Therefore, Internet gambling allows the gambler unlimited and convenient access to "shooting up." This will mean more embezzlement from local governments and businesses, more suicides and more divorces.
Where are the Puritans now that we need them?
