Michael T. Smaga, 90, of Branford, died on Jan. 25 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Emily Smaga. Mr. Smaga served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and for many years was the owner of New Haven Electric Machine Company until his retirement in 1987. An avid boater, he was a member of the Branford Yacht Club and a member and past commodore of the City Point Yacht Club in New Haven. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and EASA (Electrical Apparatus Service Association).
Mr. Smaga was a Ham Radio operator, a member of the ARRL (American Radio Relay League), and an avid collector of antique radios. In addition, he was a communicant of St. Mary Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, Michael and his wife Brenda, Janice, Thomas and his wife Jacqueline, and Kenneth and his wife Lisa Smaga. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Eli, Leila, Kenneth, and Caitlen Smaga.
His funeral procession will leave the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, on Monday, Jan. 30, at noon, for by a mass of Christian burial at St. Mary Church at 12:30 p.m. Friends may call prior to the funeral from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
