UConn coach Jim Calhoun will sit out Saturday’s game at Syracuse, according to an ESPN report. He’s already missed two games while on an indefinite medical leave of absence for a lower back condition.

The Huskies are 1-1 without Calhoun, beating Seton Hall, 69-46, Saturday and losing at Louisville, 80-59, Monday.

Calhoun said that his latest health issue will not force him to retire. He’s waiting for a treatment plan.

“It’s something I’ve got to get through,” Calhoun told ESPN. “I don’t think it changes my mind one way or another about next year or the next two years. I just want to get the pain gone from down my leg so I can walk right. Getting onto plans and coaching, I can’t do that right now.”

Boston’s Ray Allen and Charlotte’s Kemba Walker, two former Huskies facing each other tonight in Boston, are aware of Calhoun’s situation.

“He’s a fighter,” Walker said.

After visiting Syracuse Saturday, UConn has two home games next week, hosting DePaul Feb. 15 and Marquette Feb. 18.

“I’m doing my best to fight this thing,” Calhoun said. “I’ve had a couple of other obstacles before and this is another one. I’ll fight through this."
