Local roundup: Whalers win 11th straight

New London - Fourth-ranked New London High School placed four players in double figures and coasted to its 11th straight win with a 91-60 nonconference victory over Hyde of New Haven on Monday night at Conway Gymnasium.

Kris Dunn led the Whalers (15-2) with 31 points while Keith Porter added 24, Doug Henton 17 and Malcolm Simmons 10.

In other games:

• Nolan Long had 27 points - 21 in the first half - 15 rebounds and five blocks as Waterford outlasted Old Lyme 64-52. Waterford led 36-35 at halftime, with Long providing the Lancers' firepower and Old Lyme hitting six 3-pointers. Waterford upped the lead to eight at the end of three quarters.

Geary McLeod finished with 16 points for Waterford (14-1), 14 in the second half, and Mike Martin added 11. George Logan had 18 points and five steals for Old Lyme (8-8) and Dylan Sheffield 11 points.

• Trevon Gibbs scored 18 points and Kaynor Tech of Waterbury built a 29-13 lead after one quarter and cruised past Norwich Tech, 86-39. Drake Baton scored 20 points for Norwich Tech (4-13) while Ashbow Sebastian added 11. Kaynor Tech is 16-2.

Girls' basketball

• Shelby Grauer had 19 points and Kelsey Wilson scored 21, leading Holy Family past Norwich Tech, 54-32, in the Constitution State Conference. Tyra Wolchesky led Norwich Tech (4-13) with 13 points and Jessica Deschamps had four points, five steals and two rebounds. Holy Family is 5-12.

• Kayla McAvoy had 16 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in Old Saybrook's 54-27 win over Old Lyme in the Shoreline Conference. Mia Neas and Paige Trabucchi each had 11 points for the Rams (12-5, 11-5). Lyla Stanland had 11 points for the Wildcats (6-13, 5-11), who were eliminated from state tournament consideration.

H.S. wrestling

• Windham completed a perfect run through the Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division with a 46-30 win over Griswold.

The No. 8 Whippets (6-0 in the division) held a slim 34-30 lead before finishing with back-to-back pins by Devyn Pesta (160) and Marcus Jenkins (170). Dylan Martel (120), Brandon Walsh (145), Kyle Dombrowski (152), Aaron Wing (182) and Damion Currier (195) all had pins for Griswold, which finishes the regular season 17-7 overall, 4-2 in the division.

H.S. hockey

• Joey Mitchell had a goal and two assists to lead St. Bernard-NFA-Bacon to a 3-1 victory over East Haven at the Norwich Ice Rink. Conor O'Rourke and Blake Biancamano also scored goals for the Saints (8-5) and goalie Jonah Beauton stopped 34 shots.

Women's basketball

• Avery Point won its third straight game, defeating Northern Essex CC, 54-23. Freshman Alex Marchinkoski had 14 points and four steals and Ally McDonald had 13 points and 15 rebounds while Becca Pope added 11 points for the Pointers (12-6).

H.S. riflery

• Eric Sloan scored 195 points for Montville in a 897-860 loss to Ellis Tech. Other scorers for the Indians: Matthew Durrua (178), Juan Pachas (171), Charles Keeney (162) and John Coggeshall (154).
