Trap Runner and G & G Advance to Semifinals of Branford Recreation Department Men's Basketball League Playoffs

The playoffs got going in the Branford Recreation Department Men's Basketball League last week with Trap Runner defeating Evans Mobil 79-65 and G & G Earth Materials notching a 73-71 victory versus Branford Book & Card.

Jerry Solis hit five three-pointers and scored 27 points to lead Trap Runner (9-7) to its victory with Mike Nicoletti adding 20 and Brian Cardozo 15. For Evans Mobil, which finished at 3-13, Paul Votto and Alex Hopkins each netted 13 points with John McGowan scoring 10.

Colby Morawski scored 23 points to guide G & G (6-10) to its upset of Book & Card (8-8) with Mike Monack (16), Rob Howard (14), and Jeff Allen (13) also contributing. Morawski hit five three-pointers and Monack swished four. For Book & Card, Mike Tamsin scored 39 points and was aided by 14 from Rusty Gordon, plus 10 by Ed Preiss.

G & G will now face VF McNeil in semifinal action at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 with Trap Runner taking on WS Clancy at 7:30 p.m., followed by the championship contest at 9 p.m.
