Press release from the Guilford Police Department
Publication: Shore Publishing
Mark Swain, 30, of New Haven was arrested at 3:30 p.m. today and charged with second-degree attempted sexual assault, attempted risk of injury and impairing the morals of children, and enticing a minor following an investigation initiated in January in which Swain allegedly contacted a party he believed to be a 15 year old child via the Internet.
Based on information gained during this investigation, it was determined that Mr. Swain was planning on meeting the child in Guilford this afternoon. Undercover detectives from the Guilford Police Department and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task force set up surveillance in the area. A short time later, Swain arrived and was taken into custody by Detective Tim Bernier of the Guilford Police Detective Unit without incident.
These charges stem from a lengthy investigation in which Swain used the Internet to entice the party to meet with him for the purposes of having sex.
Swain was processed and held on a $100,000 bond. If bond is not met, he will be arraigned on Thursday, Feb. 9 at GA23 Court 121 Elm Street, New Haven.
