Norwich — A 30-year-old Uncasville man died Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash that shut Hunters Road down for several hours.
Norwich police said Matthew Latimer was pronounced dead at the scene after his motorcycle crashed into a guy wire for a utility pole while traveling west on Hunters Road. The road was closed from about 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. from the Hunters Avenue intersection to Route 169/Harland Road. City police, the Taftville Fire Department and American Ambulance responded to the scene.
Police said that preliminary witness reports indicate that speed may have been a factor in the crash. Latimer was not wearing a helmet, police said.
The exact cause of death will be determined after an autopsy by the Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner in Farmington.
The accident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Andre Rosedale at (860) 886-5561.
