Westerly man killed in Saturday night crash

Westerly — A Westerly man was killed and an Ashaway, R.I. woman seriously injured Saturday night in an head on crash in the area of 85 Old Hopkinton Road .

Police said the driver of a 2003 Ford pick-up, Jon W. Alberghini, 45, off Bayview Drive Westerly, was transported to Westerly Hospital by Westerly Ambulance Corps and later pronounced dead.

The driver of a 2008 Subaru, Carolyn E. Bernasconi, 74, of Juniper Drive, Ashaway, was extricated from her car and flown by Life Star helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Both the car and pickup sustained serious front end damage in the 8:11 p.m. crash and were towed from the scene. The department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident.
