Danbury (AP) — Firefighters say a woman gave birth on the side of Interstate 84 in Danbury during the morning rush hour with the help of her husband, who happens to be a doctor.
Danbury Assistant Fire Chief Charly Slagle says the woman delivered a healthy baby boy in the couple's car at about 7 a.m. Thursday on the side of I-84 westbound near exit 8. He says the baby was resting comfortably on the mother's chest when firefighters arrived.
The couple and the baby were brought to Danbury Hospital. Their names weren't released. Officials say they're from the Sandy Hook section of Newtown.
Firefighters say the father played an important role in the successful delivery.
