New London — Two lieutenants in the New London Police Department have been promoted to captain, Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio announced Friday.
Lt. Brian Wright and Lt. Todd Bergeson were the top two candidates qualified for the positions, left vacant in January when Capts. William Dittman and Michael Lacey retired. They were ranked by the city's personnel office.
"After 6 long months, the upper level management restructuring in the New London Police Department is now complete," Finizio said. "I believe this fresh management team will bring new energy to the department and will help unify the department behind a policy of community policing."
The new captains will be sworn in 2 p.m. Friday, June 29, at City Hall.
