Ivoryton Playhouse takes on a big, splashy production, staging the musical "Hairspray" starting on Wednesday. (I guess that makes sense; Wednesday is Independence Day, and Tracy Turnblad is all about independence ...)

Jill Sullivan plays Tracy here, while Michael Barra is mom Edna. Also onboard: Neal Mayer as Wilbur, Karen L. Anderson as Motormouth Maybelle, and Justin Gerhard as Link Larkin.

Jacqui Hubbard directs, and John DeNicola handles the musical direction.

- KRISTINA DORSEY

"Hairspray," opens Wednesday and runs through July 29, Ivoryton Playhouse, 103 Main St., Ivoryton; 7:30 p.m. Wed. and Thurs., 8 p.m. Fri. and Sat., 2 p.m. Wed. and Sun.; $40 ($35 seniors, $20 students, $15 kids); (860) 767-7318, ivorytonplayhouse.org.
